fortiss is the research institute of the Free State of Bavaria for the development of software-intensive systems with headquarters in Munich. The scientists at the institute cooperate in research, development and transfer projects with universities and technology companies in Bavaria, Germany and Europe. The focus is on research into state-of-the-art methods, techniques and tools for the development of software- and AI-based technologies for dependable, secure cyber-physical systems such as the Internet of Things (IoT). fortiss is organized in the legal form of a non-profit limited liability company. Shareholders are the Free State of Bavaria (majority shareholder) and the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der angewandten Forschung e.V.

The fortiss research division “Open Data and Information Management” (ODIM) concentrates on the exploration and development of sovereign information systems and verifiable business processes as the basis for the coordination of decentralized platforms. In the project KI-SusCheck we research on the possibilities of using platform and AI technologies in order to foster sustainability in food shopping. To that end, we develop an AI-based assistant which enable customers to consider criteria such as carbon emissions and animal welfare when choosing products. Your tasks:

  • Support the design of a technical architecture for the digital assistant

  • Support research on AI in the public sector

  • Develop a prototype (front- and backend)

  • Contribute to research and publication

  • Support in project-relevant administrative tasks

Your profile:

  • You have experience in developing js-based web applications or similar

  • You have experience in using dev tools such as git, gitlab and others

  • You are open-minded and willing to take an active role in an interdisciplinary team

  • You are studying Information Systems, Management and Technology, Computer Science or similar in bachelor’s or master program

  • Solid communication skills in English and German
