Student Assistant – Named-Data Networking for IIoT (m/f/d)

The IIoT competence center of fortiss focuses on the development of computational and networking architectures for advanced IoT applications and use-cases in sectors such as Mobility, Smart Cities, Manufacturing, etc. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to: Edge computing, in particular decentralised edge architectures; wireless IoT; deterministic wireless networking; dynamic container orchestration; information-centric networking; Edge AI.

We are looking for 1 motivated student to support the work under development in our fortiss IioT Lab, focusing on the implementation and validation of a demonstrator based on data-driven communications for a scenario with mobile robots, such as Automated Guided Vehicles.
 
The overall goal of the student assistantship relates with the application of Named-Data Networking (NDN) in Industrial IoT environments, against  IP-messaging broker-based approaches such as MQTT Sparkplug. The work will be developed in the fortiss IIoT Lab.

Your tasks:
  • Support the further development of the existing fortiss IioT NDN-IIoT demonstrator, involving static and mobile devices, getting acquainted with NDN, MQTT, etc.
  • Assist in the interconnection to the worldwide experimental testbed NDN.
  • Implement, if required, additional changes to the proposed NDN framework.
  • Develop the proposed performance evaluation on the local testbed and eventually, across the worldwide NDN testbed.

Your profile:
  • Completed Bachelor's degree and currently enrolled in a Master’s degree or in a PhD degree in computer science, information systems or similar.
  • Practical experience in programming languages such as Java, C, C++.
  • Good understanding on networking, TCP/IP and OSI stack.
  • Knowledge and practical experience with MQTT is preferential.
  • Acquainted and used to Linux.
  • communication skills in English.
