fortiss is the research institute of the Free State of Bavaria for software-intensive systems and services with headquarters in Munich. The institute currently employs around 180 employees, who collaborate on research, development and transfer projects with universities and technology companies in Bavaria, Germany and Europe. Research is focused on state of the art methods, techniques and tools of software development, systems & service engineering and their application to reliable, secure cyber-physical systems, such as the Internet of Things (IoT). fortiss has the legal structure of a non-profit limited liability company (GmbH). Its shareholders are the Free State of Bavaria (as majority shareholder) and the Fraunhofer Society for the Promotion of Applied Research.

Re-configurability is a key requirement of the modern automated manufacturing plant. For each reconfiguration the plant structure as well as engineering data changes, which necessitates a seamlessly exchangeable database for reconfigurable plants. AutomationML (IEC standardized engineering data exchange format for plant engineering) is widely being experimented as a database for reconfigurable plant’s engineering data. Foreseeing flexible factories of the future, we apply AutomationML as a means for planning and engineering the factories of the future with a visual interface. The present data models in AutomationML has to be extended considering simulation/virtual commissioning of reconfigurable plants and also has to be managed in a database. In this regard we are searching for a new team member:

Student assistant - Model extension for simulation of I4.0 plants (m/f/d)

Your tasks:

  • Develop AutomationML models for various use cases
  • Develop a data base and API for the AutomationML data models considering the integration of a visual interface

Your profile:

  • Studying informatics, electrical, mechanical, game engineering or related
  • Good programming knowledge (C#, Java)
  • Basic knowledge of industrial automation and I4.0
  • Interest in mechatronic systems modeling and visualizations
  • Knowledge of Unity game engine and XML data models is a plus
  • Excellent communication skills in English or German
