Who we are?

fortiss is the research institute of the Free State of Bavaria for the development of software-intensive systems with headquarters in Munich. The scientists at the institute cooperate in research, development and transfer projects with universities and technology companies in Bavaria, Germany and Europe. The focus is on research into state-of-the-art methods, techniques and tools for the development of software- and AI-based technologies for dependable, secure cyber-physical systems such as the Internet of Things (IoT). fortiss is organized in the legal form of a non-profit limited liability company. Student Assistant – Industrial IoT Semantic Matchmaking Demonstrator (m/f/d)

One of the main impairments of IoT concerns the lack of interoperability between IoT data sources and IoT services, e.g., monitoring an infrastructure. Semantic technologies assist this gap, by supporting an automated interconnection between IoT data sources (Things) and services.

You will be working on the fortiss Industrial IoT Lab, supporting the software development and performance evaluation of the open-source “Thing to Service Matchmaking (TSMatch)” demonstrator. The demonstrator is being applied in the context of international project, thus giving you the opportunity to also interact with international partners. You will be working with IoT technologies and protocols, e.g., MQTT/AMQP; Web of Things (WoT); OWL. In terms of tooling, you will be working with Javascript (JSON); React Native; Neo4J, among other tools.

Your tasks:

  • Support the second release of TSMatch, contributing to its implementation and validation.
  • Assist the configuration and integration of the component in the IIoT Lab of the fortiss Labs.
  • Implementation, performance evaluation, and support of the demonstrator and novel components implemented in the fortiss IIoT Lab.

Your profile:

  • Completed Bachelor's degree and currently enrolled in a Master’s degree in computer science, information systems or similar.
  • Practical experience in programming languages such as Javascript and Nodejs.
  • Experience with database technologies (e.g. RDF) and service descriptions model (e.g. OWL-S) (preferable).
  • Excellent communication skills in English, basic German skills is a plus.
