fortiss is the research institute of the Free State of Bavaria for the development of software-intensive systems with headquarters in Munich. The scientists at the institute cooperate in research, development and transfer projects with universities and technology companies in Bavaria, Germany and Europe. The focus is on research into state-of-the-art methods, techniques and tools for the development of software- and AI-based technologies for dependable, secure cyber-physical systems such as the Internet of Things (IoT). fortiss is organized in the legal form of a non-profit limited liability company. In the research division Center for Code Excellence (CCE;, we concentrate on software engineering and software quality metrics.
In one of our projects, we develop a demonstrator in the form of a mulit-touch table in order to teach and showcase children as well as (non-technical) adults simple and fundamental programming basics (in the style of Blockly and Scratch).

For this project, we are looking for a student assistant with a background in games engineering or computer science. You are going to support us in design, implementation and other research activities associated to the described project.

Student Assistant – Games Engineering (m/f/d)

Your tasks:
  • Support the conceptualization and design of a software demonstrator (multi-touch table)
  • Develop and implement prototypes of that demonstrator
  • Possibly showcase and explain prototypes to partners from industry and other research institutions
  • Possibly contribute to research and publication
Your profile:
  • You are open-minded and willing to take an active role in an interdisciplinary team
  • You are studying Games Engineering, Computer Science or similar as bachelor or master student
  • You have gathered first engineering experience and are motivated to take responsibilities in programming tasks
  • You have established basic programming skills and are familiar with general programming languages like C# and technologies like Unity, Godot Engine
  • Optionally, you have experience in developing touch screen applications and a passion for UX and UI design
  • You have solid communication skills in English or German
