fortiss is the research institute of the Free State of Bavaria for the development of software-intensive systems with headquarters in Munich. The scientists at the institute cooperate in research, development and transfer projects with universities and technology companies in Bavaria, Germany and Europe. The focus is on research into state-of-the-art methods, techniques and tools for the development of software- and AI-based technologies for dependable, secure cyber-physical systems such as the Internet of Things (IoT). fortiss is organized in the legal form of a non-profit limited liability company. To assist with setting up an AI / Robotics demonstrator at the Highlight Towers offices in Munich, we are looking for a new part time team member, as a working student

Student Assistant - AI - Neuromorphic Computing Demonstrator Engineer (m/f/d) (part-time)
Your tasks:

  • Setting up a 3D software demonstrator with the Neurorobotics Platform, showcasing state of the art closed-loop Neuromorphic Computing experiments, i.e. AI-driven simulated body locomotion (see INRC1) or industrial arm reinforcement learning (see INRC3)
  • Automating the continuous replay and execution of simulations (Python scripting)

  • Implementing required components

  • Easing off the deployment of the demonstrator

  • Maintaining the demonstrator and its documentation

  • Participating in the team of demonstrator maintainers (robotics, IioT, autonomous driving, …)

Your profile:

  • Bachelor or Master degree in software engineering (you should still be a registered student)

  • Experience in software development in Javascript or Python

  • Hacker profile: independent, at ease with software technologies, persistent

  • Product-oriented and pragmatic engineering mindset

  • A passion for applied science, technology and product development

  • Strong relational skills, positive thinking and team player mindset
