fortiss is the research institute of the Free State of Bavaria for software-intensive systems and services with headquarters in Munich. The institute currently employs around 180 employees, who collaborate on research, development and transfer projects with universities and technology companies in Bavaria, Germany and Europe. Research is focused on state of the art methods, techniques and tools of software development, systems & service engineering and their application to reliable, secure cyber-physical systems, such as the Internet of Things (IoT). fortiss has the legal structure of a non-profit limited liability company (GmbH). Its shareholders are the Free State of Bavaria (as majority shareholder) and the Fraunhofer Society for the Promotion of Applied Research.

The rapid development of Artificial Intelligence harbors new challenges for human-machine interaction. The competence center Human-centered Engineering at fortiss explores data-based intelligent user interfaces designed to meet the needs and requirements of humans. We are aiming at developing user, domain, and task models to make the interaction between humans and learning systems natural, intuitive, robust, and safe.

We search for a new member at the competence center of Human-centered Engineering:

Researcher (m/f/d) – Intelligent User Interface

Your tasks:
  • Development of the topic on Intelligent User Interface (IUI)
  • Support of the team on acquisition of research projects and transfer of technology
  • Expansion of cooperation with industry and network
  • Organization of workshops and talks for both internal and external partners

Your profile:
  • An outstanding university degree (M.Sc. or PhD) in Computer Science or related technical disciplines
  • Profound knowledge and practical experience in Human-Computer-Interaction (HCI, HMI) and Human-centered AI (i.e. explainability, personalization, conversational AI)
  • Experience in knowledge and technology transfer
  • Analytical thinking as well as independent and structured work
  • Self-initiative, commitment, and enthusiasm for new tasks
  • Brilliant communication and teamwork skills
  • Excellent communication skills in English, good skills in German is a plus
