fortiss is the research institute of the Free State of Bavaria for the development of software-intensive systems with headquarters in Munich. The scientists at the institute cooperate in research, development and transfer projects with universities and technology companies in Bavaria, Germany and Europe. The focus is on research into state-of-the-art methods, techniques and tools for the development of software- and AI-based technologies for dependable, secure cyber-physical systems such as the Internet of Things (IoT). fortiss is organized in the legal form of a non-profit limited liability company. Research Staff (m/f/d) – Neuromorphic Computing AI

Your tasks: 

  • Investigate new methods for learning in Spiking Neural Networks, including learning with few trials
  • In collaboration with the Technical University of Graz (Prof. Maass), work on porting Deep Learning based AI algorithms onto neuromorphic Hardware including Intel Loihi
  • Analyse the opportunity of industrial applications of Spiking Neural Networks on specific tasks, using Fortiss' industrial network (computer vision, robotic control, automotive)
  • Participate in user support of the Neurorobotics Platform, a neuromorphic computing simulator for robotics applications

Your profile:

  • An outstanding university degree in mathematics (statistics, deep learning theory) or software engineering, artificial intelligence, robotics, computer science
  • Strong interest and knowledge in Neural Networks and Deep Learning
  • Mathematical skills, especially in the field of machine learning, statistics, stochastics and/or linear algebra
  • Experience in software development on large code bases in Javascript or Python
  • Strong knowledge in object oriented design
  • Optional experience in web applications
