BACHELOR THESIS - SMARTMETER FOR ELECTRICITY NETWORK SUPPORTING DECENTRALIZED ENERGY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM (M/F/D)

fortiss is the research institute of the Free State of Bavaria for software-intensive systems and services with headquarters in Munich. The institute currently employs around 180 employees, who collaborate on research, development and transfer projects with universities and technology companies in Bavaria, Germany and Europe. Smartmeter for Electricity Network Supporting Decentralized Energy Management System (m/f/d)


In this work an alternative possibility for an energy-efficient use of the currently available (renewable) energies will be investigated, which works without interaction with other systems and nevertheless enables a network-supporting operation. The current energy quality (frequency, phase angle, current, voltage, etc.) is measured with the aid of a suitable SmartMeter, and a dynamic indicator is determined and broadcasted by the SmartMeter on the basis of which local components can decide whether to switch on or off or modulate in order to contribute to a stabilization of the external infrastructure and accordingly to changes in energy quality. The dynamic indicator is correlated with a real time price, allowing financial rewarding to appropriate reaction of the local components. The focus of the study is the SmartMeter and its functions. Its functionality will be evaluated by implementation in a grid system with flexibilities with intelligent controllers, reacting on the dynamic indicator.

  • Studies of informatics or similar
  • Knowledge of Java, git, Maven
  • Experience with Raspberry Pi (of advantage)
  • Interest in energy-related topics
  • Very good German and English skills
