fortiss is the research institute of the Free State of Bavaria for software-intensive systems and services with headquarters in Munich. The institute currently employs around 180 employees, who collaborate on research, development and transfer projects with universities and technology companies in Bavaria, Germany and Europe. Research is focused on state of the art methods, techniques and tools of software development, systems & service engineering and their application to reliable, secure cyber-physical systems, such as the Internet of Things (IoT). fortiss has the legal structure of a non-profit limited liability company (GmbH). Its shareholders are the Free State of Bavaria (as majority shareholder) and the Fraunhofer Society for the Promotion of Applied Research.

Currently, we are offering a Bachelor thesis:

Bachelor thesis- Load control and battery switching of a portable solar generator (m/f/d)

 As technology continues to advance, access to green and renewable energy such as solar energy is quickly gaining popularity. This is because green energy is more reliable and cleaner than most of the other power sources available. This makes it environment-friendly and capable of saving you money. Typically, a solar generator converts sun energy captured by solar panels into electrical power and then stores it in a battery. The stored power can then be utilized to power various appliances.
This thesis aims at building a rapid prototype of a smart and intelligent solar power generator with monitoring and control capabilities.

Goals of thesis/ your tasks: :

  • Prototypical implementation and evaluation
  • Controlling the loads using a predefined algorithm based on availability of stored energy and predicted load demand and generation
  • Facilitate Monitoring and visualization dashboard
  • Evaluation of monitored data collected during testing period

Your profile:

  • Studies of informatics or similar
  • Knowledge of Java, git, Maven
  • Experience with Raspberry Pi (of advantage)
  • Interest in energy-related topics
  • Excellent communication skills in English, basic skills in German is a plus
